My Story

I underachieved in high school.

No one pushed me.

I lost confidence.

Deep down, I always felt:

I’m better than this.

That feeling followed me into my 20s.

I numbed it with binge eating, drifting, waiting for things to happen.

I didn’t like who I was or how I felt in my own skin.

Things changed at age 30.

I began strength training and added muscle.

I got motivated to compete again.

At age 35 I got serious about running, but had no clue what I was doing.

My first marathon?

Total disaster.

I couldn’t break 4 hours. I walked the last 6 miles.

I was frustrated.

What did I need to do differently?

Then I heard a guy on a podcast say:

“Just run slow. And run a lot.”

So I did.

I ran almost every day, purposefully slow. I didn’t know if it would work.

But I stayed consistent.

Seven months later, I ran a marathon under 3 hours.

All that jogging had paid off.

Then I got to compete in the Boston Marathon.

I was finally discovering my potential.

I’ve had my share of setbacks along the way.

Bad races. Burnout.

A brutal pelvic injury that sidelined me for six months.

That was one of the darkest periods in my life.

But I refused to quit.

I studied.
